Coulton’s horse cools down on Nevill Street

David Walshe

Here is my Nan, then Elizabeth Kerrigan, aged 16 in 1949. She worked at Henry Earnshaw’s Snack Bar, No.29 Nevill Street, which she describes as a ‘milk bar’. The lucky horse was working for Coulton’s Bakery of Shakespeare Street. The coach in the background was most likely part of Gore’s Coach Tours, who were across the road at No.40. Some buildings on Bath Street can also be seen.
