Bold Street

This street is named for one of Southport’s landowning families. Since the mid 1800s, it has combined holiday accommodation at the Promenade end with small shops just off Lord Street.

Midway along the street are the impressive Kenworthy’s buildings, built as a hydropathic hotel. It offered a wide range of baths, including ‘Russian, Hot Air and Vapour’, said to ‘bring about most favourable healthful influences to the cure of disease’.

Bold Street was developed a few years after Nevill Street and sits in the middle of one of the plots of land belonging to the Bold family. The Bolds were joint Lords of the Manor with the Hesketh family.
