Southport animation - callout for artists

18th century map of the sandhills where Southport now stands.
Sefton Libraries

We’re looking for an artist to create an animation to whizz through nearly 250 years of Southport’s townscape heritage – from sandhills to the town today. Interested – read on!

It’s hard to realise now, but 250 years ago Southport was just sandhills, with a marshy trackway between them, fronting onto the beach and the sea. Since then, those natural features have disappeared under roads and buildings – but the traces are there if you know where to look.

These changes happened gradually, and one thing led to another – the building of a railway line on the beach created an area of dry land, which became a park, for example! But it took us a long time to work out all the details, so we want to share the information in a lively way with people, especially our key target audience of primary schoolchildren.

Please take a look at the brief below. We hope you’ll be interested in sending us a proposal. The deadline is Monday 29 April at 12 noon. And do get in touch if you have any queries – contact details are on the brief and we’ll respond as soon as possible.
